Legal Education
"Legal Clinic"
One of the main goals of our organization is to promote professional development of young lawyers. In this sense, we actively cooperate with various international or local organizations.

Since foundation until now, under the aegis of "Article 42 of the Constitution" a number of trainings, seminars and meetings were held. Organization is making its own contribution in growth of lawyers' qualification. In this connection, young lawyers are able to gain legal practice in the scopes of "Legal Clinic".

"Legal Clinic" is rather successful program of "Article 42 of the Constitution" (Donor ABA/CELL).

The program has been implemented since 1998 by the human rights centre. Within the legal Clinic program, law students get trained in law practice; master all necessary skills for lawyers.

Team work practice is often applicable among the legal clinic. Program participants under supervision of skilful lawyers work on current civil, administrative, criminal and constitutional cases - prepare legal documentation; represent clients before the internal courts and other state agencies, where citizens have appealed for the violation of its fundamental rights.

During the program lawyers conform to the norms of professional ethic, share its own experience with clinic students; inform them about organization's internal rules, teach students how to represent clients before the court and work on cases. Legal Clinic students give legal consultations to citizens.

Human rights centre successfully enjoy national as well as international legal mechanisms for human rights protection in regional courts, court of appeal, Supreme Court and constitutional court.

Within the Legal Clinic program, about 500 participants gained practical experience; Organization offered legal consultations to 5000 citizens, its members worked on almost 600 cases, where 400 cases were won.

Georgian and Foreign experts were presented at the trainings. There were held imitation processes at the end of each session leaded by the "court" of experts and training participants. Besides, two round tables were held aiming to find out if the lawyers applied effectively the experience gained on trainings. Experts were leaded discussions raised during the meeting. The project was of unique character, as practicing lawyers have given an opportunity to be trained on the procedure issues of case hearing before the ECHR; in addition, the project has taken on special significance by formation of the network of human rights protecting lawyers.
