Lawyers involved in litigation of cases in the ECHR had a meeting in Kutaisi

A meeting of a network of practicing lawyers, who work on the cases that are pending before the European Court of Human Rights was held in Kutaisi, Human Right House on 6 December. Practicing lawyers of the Western Georgia discussed the problems related to the application procedures to the ECHR and litigation of the cases. Lawyers, together with the experts of the organization «Article 42 of the Constitution» held discussion on important issues, such as lodging an application in the European Court of Human Rights; prohibition of torture, right to life and fair trial – standards of the ECHR and case-law of Georgia in this relation; judgments of the European Court. A network of lawyers who are involved in litigation of the cases in the ECHR was established in the framework of the project «Strategic litigation in the Caucasus». International partners of the project are: «Netherlands Helsinki Committee» and «Interights» (UK); regional partners are - «Armenian Institute for Development» (Armenia) and «Legal Education Society» (Azerbaijan). The project is financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and GOF RE found of the British Embassy. More than fifty lawyers from all over Georgia are the members of the network. The goal of the network is to enhance professional capacities of the lawyers and to promote justice and rule of law through implementation of the standards and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Georgia.
